The Rise and Fall of The Art Skool Drop Outs
The Slits meets Spinal Tap in this tragic-comic tale of the rise and fall of ill-fated all girl punk band The Art Skool Drop Outs. Claire Morgan wrote and performed The Art Skool Drop Outs alongside local spoken word compere and ‘legend in his own lunchtime’ Chris Moir who starred as Toonz Five Rock News Channel Rockographer Harry B.Vilberg. We worked with local Film Maker John Allen to develop this unique 20 minute cabaret offering fusing live performance with film, music and character. Music was produced in production with Jerboa Kolinowski and, using local musicians and supporting artistes, we filmed largely on location in….NEW YORK (Er…the little one near Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear).
Part commissioned by New Word Order and funded by Arts Council North East, this was unique project designed to bring a fresh approach to performance poetry to local poetry performers in the area. Launched in partnership with spoken word promoters New Word Order in Newcastle, it toured to Hydrogen Jukebox in Darlington, Poetry Vandals events in Newcastle and Writers Café at The Arc, Stockton on-Tees. As a result of the success of Handbag Voodoo in North East, we were invited to perform at Prague Fringe Festival in 2006.
