Voodoo Word Circus: What is it?
It is a dark, broad church that brings a range of new and professional artists to poetry as a medium for performance and artistic development.
- It is a unique collaborative, multi-media approach to the creative and professional development of artists working with a range of art forms with spoken word as the focus
- An event that fuses spoken word with a range of art forms and disciplines, including theatre, film, performance/live art, dance, music, comedy, magic, visual art, ventriloquism etc.
- To give poets and performance poets a unique opportunity to develop their work for performance or interpretation by a range of artists
- A space to raise the profile of poetry and spoken word as a performance medium and for artists to work collaboratively with poets/writers to produce new, innovative pieces
Working over a 3-day residency, the Voodoo Word Circus collective of artists work under the guidance of a Lead Artist to bring the piece together. The piece always has a theme – to date themes have been Big Love Potion and The Dead That Never Lived.
Monkfish wants to develop this approach to spoken word, which can be replicated as an example of good practice at other theatres and venues in the UK. For further info, get in touch with us!
