#CraftedWithCare: March 2021
We are delighted to be working with Projects 4 Change and textile artist Melanie Kyles in making handcrafted gifts for residents of The Dales supported living scheme for older people in Cowgate, Newcastle upon Tyne. This intergenerational project is the opportunity for local young people to develop their eco-friendly craft making skills through making a gift for an older person in their community as a way of reducing the isolation many have felt through the current lock down, but also to reach out and build relationships across both age groups. With the support of Local Connections Fund, Department of Media, Culture and Sport.
Producing Place is our current approach to exploring how we work with artists and communities to make work in physical environments and with the ideas of place and space. Over the last few months, we have been working with our Producing Place Creative Associate Nick Malyan to explore what this means for our artists, our communities and for Monkfish as an organisation going forward.
We are in the early stages of building a Producing Place Framework, so look forward to sharing ideas and updates very soon.
A Little Bit of Good in The World is a new project exploring ways in which we can all stand together to do and share our own bits of good in the world where we work and where we live.
In this podcast with Audiovisual Cultures we talk about the 4 C’s of the project: creativity, connection, critical thinking and citizenship. We also hear from our friends at Projects 4 Change about our joint project with young people in Outer West of Newcastle upon Tyne.
